Autism is a way of life,
not a life sentence.

With the right support system, you and your child can live a full, happy life with an autism diagnosis. Through a strong community and advancing technologies, words like stressed, overwhelmed and separate don’t have to dominate the equation. See you or your child’s brain in real-time to understand and address the root causes of ASD.

Everyone experiences ASD differently.

Brain Health Restoration uses the promising brain health technology – MeRT℠, Magnetic eResonance Therapy – to optimize quality of life and brain function based on the individual needs of your brain.

How It Works

1. Baseline Scan

Record brain and heart activity using EEG and EKG technology to understand how each individual’s brain is functioning.

2. Create Your Plan

The data from the EEG/EKG recording will be used to create an individualized MeRT plan specific to your brain.

3. Support

Meet with our physician to go over your results and discuss healthy behaviors to enhance treatment response.

4. Magnetic eResonance

MeRT℠ gently stimulates and balances brain function in ten 30-min sessions over a 2-week period.

5. Follow-up & Adjust

Record a follow-up EEG/EKG  to assess how your brain is responding and whether additional MeRT℠ is indicated.

6. Post Discharge

90 days after you complete your MeRT℠ protocol, you will receive an assessment call from Brain Health Restoration.

How Brain Health Restoration Approaches Autism

MeRT℠ combines a version of Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS, an FDA-cleared therapy) with a Quantitative Electroencephalogram (qEEG) and Electrocardiogram (EKG) technology.

MeRT℠ evolved from TMS due to the growing need for a more custom treatment experience. Brain Health Restoration creates a tailored TMS protocol specific to the patient’s brain, based on the results of their EEG/EKG.

While all of the modalities of MeRT℠ have been FDA cleared or approved, MeRT℠ technology as a whole is still in the process of receiving a verified FDA clearance for diagnoses like ASD. MeRT℠ is considered an “off-label” approach to ASD.

Studies have shown that MeRT℠ can be instrumental in helping children or adults with ASD develop skills for optimized daily function, and can be combined with other therapies to maximize treatment results.

Common Symptoms Associated with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

Hyperactivity

Lack of volume control

Obsession with particular routines

Sensitivity to loud noises and bright lights

Abnormal fixation on specific objects

Repetitive movements, rocking, or other compulsive movements

Highly intelligent and focused in specific areas without concern or social connection

Monotone voice and speech patterns

Common Symptoms Associated with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

Little or no verbal skills

Doesn’t seem to respond to or understand audible directions

Seems unaffected by emotional gestures from loved ones or caregivers

Inability to detect body language

Inability to understand changes in voice tone

Limited or no eye contact

Blank face expressions in emotional situations

Appears to lack emotion, empathy or compassion

None of these symptoms alone are diagnostic of your child being on the spectrum. However, early detection and intervention with even the mildest symptoms can help to aid in supporting the individual in the development of their own unique coping and communication skills. The connectivity issue

Studies show that the brains of children with ASD have less connectivity between different brain regions. As the distance increases, there are fewer connections. This can be seen in EEG results. Alpha wave patterns in the back of the brain (where sensory input is generated) are usually out of sync with the front part of the brain (where our executive center actually “thinks” about those sensations). At the same time there tend to be too many interconnections within brain regions.

“In autism, there’s short-range over-connectivity and long-range under-connectivity,” Dr. Jeffrey S. Anderson says. “So, for tasks that require us to combine or assimilate information in different parts of the brain, like social function and complex motor tasks, individuals with autism have more trouble. And when there’s a very specific task-focused with the single brain region that’s primarily involved activities like paying attention to specific features in the world around us, individuals with autism tend to be quite good or even better than normal.”

What we see on baseline EEGs

The bulk of the evidence supports significant connectivity disturbances in ASD that are possibly widespread.

Baseline EEG studies of ASD suggest too much power in low-frequency and high-frequency bands, and a deficit of the optimal alpha frequencies that brains need to communicate between regions.

What happens with treatment

After MeRT treatment, the EEG report shows improved connectivity of the different areas of the brain.

Our Patients

“The experience we had at Brain Health Restoration Reno was amazing. Our daughter Camila was diagnosed with ASD at two years of age. She is mostly nonverbal and knows some ASL. We decided to come to Brain Health Restoration in Reno to try to offer our daughter any kind of benefit MeRT had to offer. Within a few days of starting treatment she was saying new words, and even pointed to and said her ABC’s. It was the first time we really heard her true voice. Since then she continues to say new words and shows us that she had been comprehending more than she was able to vocally express. Camila just started kindergarten and her teachers say she is doing great. We also see improvement in eye contact and ability to focus. She is able to express herself more and we continue to see improvement all around. We look forward to coming back to Reno for more treatments.”

“We know that ASD is not a curable thing, but we do know that we can help to reduce symptoms. Before Brain Health Restoration, I felt like [my child] was always unhappy, discontent – he wasn’t comfortable in his skin. It was finally like his whole body took a deep breath. That’s all I wanted for him; That’s all our family wants, for us all to feel comfortable and happy together.”

Leah, Mother

“As a provider of behavioral health services, I have long hoped for an additional tool in my kit that could get my patients’ brains on their side, instead of working against them each and every day. Talk therapy is key to new awareness and information and to building the therapeutic relationship, but to have the advantage of a positive change in physical brain functionality is a game changer!”
